Uma fonte e um cinema / A fountain and a cinema

De regresso ao largo Carlos Amarante, desta vez para desenhar a fonte em cujos degraus me sentei da última vez que lá estive e, especialmente, o velho cinema “São Geraldo”, há muitos anos encerrado e em triste decadência. Uma magnífica sala de cinema “à moda antiga” – segundo algumas fontes, a mais antiga de Braga e a segunda a exibir filmes em Portugal – vestígio de um tempo em que ir ao cinema era um acontecimento mais especial do que o ritual multipléxico e mastigante dos dias de hoje. Aqui fica a minha singela homenagem a este lugar que frequentei várias vezes na já distante década de setenta, e que era o meu preferido de entre a razoável oferta que à época ainda existia no centro da cidade.
(Por obscuras razões, dos muitos filmes que aqui vi, este e este são os me vêm sempre de imediato à lembrança... Talvez porque num tempo em que efeitos especiais digitais eram também algo de ficção científica cujo advento nem se adivinhava, um tipo vestido com um risível fato de monstro a arrasar cidades de papelão conseguia mesmo fascinar um miúdo!)
Back to Carlos Amarante square, this time to draw the fountain in whose steps I sat last time and, especially, the old “São Geraldo” cinema, closed many years ago and in sad decay. A magnificent old fashion cinema theater – according to some sources, the oldest in Braga and the second only to show movies in Portugal – reminiscent of a time when going to see a movie was something more special than today's masticative and multiplexed ritual. Here I leave my simple tribute to this place I attended several times in the distant 70's, and that was my favorite among the reasonable offer still existing then in the city centre. 
(For obscure reasons, of many films I saw there, this and this are the ones that I always recall in the first place... Maybe because in a time when digital special effects were themselves a sort of of science fiction whose advent couldn't even be guessed, a guy wearing a laughable monster suit razing cardboard cities could really fascinate a kid!)
