Duas palmeiras / Two palm trees

It's increasingly difficult to find palm trees still unaffected by the rhynchophorus ferrugineus pest, a red scarab that has been doing a true ravage across the region.

Monte do Pilar

A church, and the Lanhoso castle just behind. A bell tower, a restaurant, some few chapels, staircases and access roads, etc, etc. All this built over a single and gigantic granite rock!

Ponte Mem Gutierres

Um desenho ficou por fazer / A sketch has been left undone

Rambling around the thermal town of Gerês, and after making the sketch above, I stopped near the large building of the Hotel do Parque, long time closed and in accelerated disrepair, but still hinting many of its former splendor, when it was considered one of the best in its time.
There was no lack of interesting subjects to sketch, and big was the temptation. However, being in the final stretch of that day's trip, getting somewhat tired and with a complaining stomach, I called upon my mental habit of “bookmarking” places to sketch in future visits by choosing a couple of viewpoints, and moved away.
Three days after, the old hotel didn't have strenght for more: Most of it collapsed, fortunately with no victims, and the few parts still standing were promptly demolished to prevent further disasters.
A gorgeous testimony of the golden age of hydrotherapy has been lost forever, and I lost a precious chance of sketching it due to my laziness. Hopefully I shall have learned something from this.

A pale sunshine finally came up, but only after I cancelled my plans for that day,  and no longer able to resume them.

From the master Marceliano de Araújo, the main altarpiece of this church is for me the most beautiful of all those I know in Braga. It was also one of the most difficult to sketch and paint due to its complexity and also the obscurity so typical of these temples, due to which only when back on street I could have a clearer notion of the colors I used.
