Uma simples casa / A simple house

Getting around by the high Minho lands, turned even brighter by the Spring, is to be sure of meeting some simple and charming houses, where life still runs peacefully. It was from there that came the inspiration for this work.

I especially like the rust from the outdoor faucet on this one Paulo.

I finally got down to the Post Office and got my two paintings. They are even more glorious in person! I must sell more paintings so I can buy more of yours!

That rust is the kind of small details that always interest me, Sheila, as well as all the signs of past time and weather in the stones, walls, old wooden doors, etc.

I'm so happy that the paintings arrived safely, and especially you liked them. Thank you so much for your kindness :))

Se um dia eu chegasse ao ponto de construír uma casa de férias em Portugal...uma óbvia fantasia...eu ia primeiro encomendar uma pintura conceptual ao Paulo Mendes, para depois ser enviada ao arquitecto…

Very beautiful again. Who would not like to live in such a house, or just pass by it? I'm glad your imagination for these scenes seems to be inexhaustible. They always brighten my day.

Seeing this was a pleasant reminder that I should have one of your paintings in the mail any day now!

Villager, obrigado pelo voto de confiança. Só posso desejar que consiga cumprir esse sonho, mesmo que o arquitecto opte por seguir outros caminhos não menos interessantes.

Mineke, thank you for your words. I feel fortunate for still having the chance of passing by houses like this in my errands on the countryside, just hoping that they may remain in place for more years to come.

Nancy, I hope that the painting you're expecting will please you as much as this one. It may arrive to you some day during next week.

Villager, Mineke and Nancy, thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

I love the terracota red of the bricks here...you've depicted the feel of sunlight really well....I am constantly stunned by your output..Tell me, do you ever want to work in a different format or medium?

Thanks, Niall: I've been thinking on giving a try to gouache: Sometimes I feel that a bit more thick and opaque colors would be nice. Oil painting is something that would like to try one day, but still scares me. I think that should start by having lessons.
In what concern to formats, I've been trying larger ones, up to 12"x9", but only to conclude that the most comfortable for me are the tiny ones. At the moment, I'm considering occasional downsizes to Aceo's or even smaller...
