Sketches at Friday / Esboços à Sexta

I thought it would be interesting to dedicate one day a week to posting some sketches, and so I chose Friday for that purpose, nothing bothered that today it is the thirteen.
I present three that were recentely made, still not knowing when or if they will be turned into paintings...
The first of them was made at today's lunch break.
The second one was made yesterday, in the same period.
The third is the sketch that led to the previous work: You may notice that the final painting is reversed in relation to what we see here. One of the advantages of using the transparent paper on transposing to the definitive one - see the recent post about my working method - is to realise that sometimes the reversed drawing becomes more interesting than the original draft.

Okay Paulo, I am slow occasionally but are you saying you don't work from photos at all? Just from sketches?

That's it, Sheila. My work comes all from the imagination. I worked from photos in the past and learned a lot from it, but now I prefer to have the greatest freedom of creating my own scenes.

I'm still feeling limited, Stephen, especially in what concerns to natural landscapes, which I wanted so much to paint. I need to observe a lot and train my eyes to memorize the thousands of different creations of Nature. Plein air sketching and painting would be a lot helpful in this matter, and I should think to organize myself in order to find some time for it!

Paulo, this is a great idea. I think many people will enjoy watching your process. I know I do.

Thank you! It's wonderful to share this part of the work, and also it helps to keep the blog in motion when a finished work takes a little bit more time to come out.
