Estrada para Germil / Road to Germil

Germil is a gorgeous little village in the slope of the Amarela mountains, accessible, from the Ponte da Barca side, through a road not for the faint-hearted: Narrowly winding, hinting depths at each curve, ascends among a breathtaking scenery. Spring, when the heathers paint the mountain with its lively pink, is one of the best times to cross it. Under a beautiful sunlight, the last stretch before approaching the village, when the wild and colorful slopes get mixed with terraced meadows, streams and oak woods, may be what most closely resembles the arrival to Heaven... Or maybe Heaven is just there, as having made such same journey in a stormy Autumn morning, the “beauty shock” wasn't minor.
Nothing of that could I express in this uncapable sketch, still made in the middle of the traject in one of the scarce points where it's possible to pull over and get out of the car. But does that really matter if the most important was to breathe that air, and experience the landscape during its efforts to fit into the paper?

This is a beautiful work of a beautiful place. Must be a pleasure painting such landscapes. Fabulous.

It's a gorgeous place and my work doesn't do it justice, Asit. But being there and sketching it was a very special feeling. I'll post more about the village soon.
