A little town / Um vilarejo

This work is definitely one of my favorites. It was perhaps the one that took me more hours to do this year, although this is not a guarantee of a good result, quite the opposite: Many of my greatest "joys" were born from works done at a glance. To tell the truth, I hesitated and feared to venture myself from the first sketch: The scale of my drawings does not follow the "growth" of the paper size, a bit larger than usual here, and the more it grows, the more "stuff" I tend to put in there, so I feared that in this case the abundance of elements would result in something like what I see on my washing machine's window when it is working. But with the right light, a little different from what was originally planned, everything went very smooth. And more than the scene itself, a sufficiently descriptive view of a village in the lush Northern Portugal, it is that Summer light I want to celebrate, because it's what I like the most in this season, remaining in my memory as a kind of "mental fireplace" that warms and comforts in the colder months.
Este trabalho é definitivamente dos meus preferidos. Talvez seja aquele que durante este ano mais horas me levou a fazer, embora isso não seja uma garantia de um bom resultado final, bem pelo contrário: Muitas das minhas maiores “alegrias” nasceram de trabalhos feitos num ápice. Para dizer a verdade, hesitei e receei aventurar-me diante do esboço inicial: A escala dos meus desenhos não acompanha o “crescimento” do tamanho do papel, aqui um pouco maior que o habitual, e quanto mais este cresce mais “tralha” tenho tendência para colocar lá dentro, pelo que receava que neste caso a abundância de elementos resultasse em algo parecido com o que consigo ver no óculo da minha máquina de lavar roupa quando esta está a trabalhar. Mas com a luz certa, um pouco diferente daquela que tinha inicialmente previsto, tudo correu muito benzinho, sim senhor. E mais do que a cena em si, uma vista descritiva quanto baste de um vilarejo do verdejante Norte de Portugal, é essa luz de Verão que gostaria de celebrar, pois ela é aquilo que mais gosto nesta estação do ano, ficando na minha memória como uma espécie de “lareira mental” que aquece e dá alento nos meses mais frios.
