Here, in the highest neighborhood of a small town, the most humble of homes have privileges of a guardian castle, and those who inhabit it are presented with luxury views. And if the familiar environment and a good conviviality of many years weren't enough, I suppose that no one can also complain of ill health - although this may certainly be the preferred “sport” in conversations between neighbors - after climbing all the stairs needed to reach there.
Aqui, no bairro mais elevado de uma pequena cidade, a mais humilde e diminuta das casas assume privilégios de castelo vigilante, e os que nela habitam são presenteados com vistas de luxo. E como se não bastasse o ambiente familiar e a boa convivência de muitos anos, calculo eu que também ninguém se poderá queixar de falta de saúde – embora esse seja decerto o "desporto” preferido nas conversas entre vizinhos – depois de subir todos os degraus necessários para lá se chegar.

ReplyDeleteI don't like heights too much, but I sure wouldn't be afraid of sitting there overlooking the beautiful "city." I notice that when I look at "your" people, they almost seem to be looking at YOU taking a picture of them, as if caught off guard, as if they had just looked up or to the side and there you were to capture the moment. ReplyDeleteThe steps have a beautiful shape to them. Beautiful as always Paulo. I wouldn't mind the walk - there's something about the way they made steps centuries ago that don't seem to tax the legs like modern stairs. Maybe it's in my head, but I had no issues with all the steps in Montmartre, France!
